My Man (2014) (English)
After a tsunami a single man adopts a young girl. She grows up, and the stepfather and the girl starts a sexual relationship, but something happens and they have to leave town.
This is a film that burns slowly, and the atmosphere is dirty and dark. Incest is of course not fun to watch, and as a viewer you will feel dirty after watching this film.
I can say it like this, this is not a film I will ever watch again. You don’t care about the central characters in this universe, they are both sick in the head. After a while, there is one event that leads to that the stepfather and the girl must leave town. The girl has a secret, and I really love what happened with a person when he saw something that he shouldn’t have seen. It’s a stupid scene, and it don’t belong in a film like this, but it is so funny and tragic. Float away, old man!
The actors are really good. Tadanobu Asano is my favorite actor from Japan. And lovely Fumi Nikaidô is the one to watch out for, because she has been really impressive in her last films. She can make it to the stars, I love that she takes chances, and you can really tell that she is growing as an actress. She’s a chameleon in disguise, she can be unsecure and humble, and suddenly she can be a total psycho. I love this actress!
My Man is a well-acted film that burns slowly. My Man is not a film for everyone, there is incest, murders and the pace is slow. But if you like dark and dirty crime films, My Man is worth a watch.
