Su-ki-da (2005) (English)

Two teenagers are in love with each other, but they can’t say quite what they feel. The years go by, and they meet again when they have become adults and got a job. Will they get a second chance to express their feelings, or will they still hold their feelings locked inside themselves?

Su-ki-da is a good and reflective film with good actors, especially Aoi Miyazaki is absolutely amazing. The camera rests on her beautiful face very often, her character does not say much, but her body language says it all. Su-ki-da is also very beautiful to look at with great pictures that calms down the heart rate.

This is a down to earth film that many people can see themselves in when words are not being said, and you maybe never get a second chance to say the words that can change a life before you take your last breath.

It feels so real in Su-ki-da, the focus is only on two people and a sad sister. There’s no classroom drama, no bullying or parents who are arguing. But evil shows up totally unexpected, that could ruined the film, but it felt realistic, because you never know what awaits around the next corner.

The end disappointed me a little, had the film stopped 5 minutes earlier this could have almost been a little masterpiece. Either way, this is a film that is worth seeing if you like slow, reflective, down to earth films from Japan in which the characters do not say so much, they play more on the body language and real emotions that ordinary people can see themselves in. Su-ki-da is certainly worth a watch for real people with normal values in life.

8/10
