A home office tour at Team Chapter Friday

Maybe your home office is your 9-to-5 business set-up or maybe you’ve created a small corner at home to catch up on some life admin or late night vlog watching. Whatever the function and whatever the size, it’s worth creating a home office set-up that is not just practical but that also makes you feel good. What always works is keeping things light and white, to suggest spaciousness, and to personalize with posters, photos and soft (candle) light.

At CHAPTER FRIDAY we’ll admit to being mildly obsessed with home office styling (hence our Desk Of section!). It’s impressive how many different ways you can organize and decorate what’s basically just a computer station. Here, we give you a glimpse at the home offices of three of us at CHAPTER FRIDAY with different homes and different lifestyles; Yara lives alone and has a small spare room, Kelly lives with her boyfriend and created a special corner in their living room and Emma sleeps and works in the same room. Let’s see what makes these spaces special to us.

Yara’s desk situation in her spare room
“I’ve been living in the same apartment for eight years and the small bedroom that used to belong to my twin brother (the poor guy didn’t stand a chance when we divided rooms) is now my work and wardrobe space. It’s where I stall out my most prized pieces, hang my ready-picked outfits if I’m having a busy week (I might tell you more about that, if you want) and do some late night typing whenever I feel like it. Although I’m not that girly, I love that this tiny place in my house has some soft details – here’s where I got my inspiration from. The one thing I don’t constantly change up is the desk; it was custom made and is built into the wall. Keeping this corner tidy, bright and personal gets me motivated. Because this little corner suits the style of my blog, I’m instantly inspired for new articles.”

Kelly’s desk situation at her dining table
“My home office is situated at the dining table. I had my doubts if this all white space would maybe look a little too clean, but it’s my favourite spot in the house. I prefer an early start of the day, when the morning shadows dance around the walls. When working, I’m accompanied by my phone, a glass of Belvoir (newly discovered favourite summer drink!) a buttload of rice crackers and a notebook – only one, otherwise I can’t remember where I wrote things down. When I go for a walk, I grab the occasional BLT bagel around the corner. Feeling a granny saying this, but I usually enjoy silence over music when I’m busy concentrating…”

Emma’s desk in her studio apartment
“My home workspace is also my living and bedroom. I live in a small studio in the middle of Amsterdam, but I love working at home – sipping from my own coffee cups. I’m an early bird and the happiest and focused in the morning. My place is really light with two big wall filling windows and transparent white curtains, which I find really important. I have one big table where I eat, and my ‘mess’ is and one smaller office desk with my computer on it. My rule is to have only drinks on the desk, no food is allowed. While working, I always listen to music, but the genre depends on what I have to do. Photo edits on Sunday mornings come together with feel-good French music, but when answering difficult emails I prefer piano music by Ludovico Einaudi, well actually, Ludovico is always good.”

Do you have a desk at home and how did you style it?
