Backgrounds and props that boost your blog and insta photography

As a blogger or Instagram enthusiast, you’re probably always looking for ways to create a consistent style in your photos. If you’re anything like us, you probably feel overly excited when all the shots on your Insta-feed match each other. Next to that, creating a consistent photography style helps you to take beautiful pictures and a recognizable signature that will get noticed and attract an audience.

Today we’re going over a variety or different surfaces and backdrops that are often quite affordable, and that will go a long way in putting together some striking blog and social shots. Let’s see the most used backgrounds and props at CHAPTER FRIDAY – and why we love ‘em.

A white side table or shelf
Why it works: If you want to invest in a small interior item to help boost your blog photography, a nice side table in white is a pretty good idea. White tabletops are always Instagram-ready, they reflect natural light and make each photo look flawless, neutral and clean.

Crispy white bedsheets
Why it works: Bedsheets make everything look like it’s a lazy Sunday morning. This backdrop gives your picture a fresh, pure and more personal look. You may want to stay in bed while you’re Instagramming away.

Coloured and patterned paper
Why it works: It’s cheap and it comes in countless options; what’s not to like? Visit your local stationery store – we visit De Vlieger go on a weekly base – and just see what kind of materials and paper they have to offer. A big plus: it’s budget friendly! For under five euros, you’re good to go. Gradually, you’ll build your own paper collection which you may use and re-use over and over. Opt for a bright print, something with palm leaves or a marble or wood print to make your photos pop.

A concrete floor
Why it works: The concrete floor at the CHAPTER FRIDAY office is one of our most used backgrounds to date. Whether we lay out the supplies for a new DIY or snap a pair of new shoes of a team member, it never lets us down! The grey surface is calm and cool and works well with any object, really.

A graphic rug
Why it works: The warm, friendly tones of a rug work wonders when you need something to brighten up an otherwise pretty plain shot (say, your freshly painted toenails), your hand picked bouquet ora a new vintage interior find. It may serve as an eyecatcher in your interior shots, but serves as an outstanding backdrop too.

Brick walls
Why it works: Just like the concrete floor at the CHAPTER FRIDAY HQ, the the brick walls always come in handy. Look for them in the area of your house; the burnt orange goes great with blue-ish shades. This kind of backdrop is your best friend when it come to outfit shots as it doesn’t draw away attention from the clothes yet adds some character.

Marble countertops
Why it works: Marble adds a sense of elegance and the veinings offer lots of contrast when processing your picture. This prop material and its luxurious beauty will make shots you made during your coffee break look elegant and stylish right away. Try to find a marble countertop, or if that pricetag is slightly too hefty; a sticker or printed paper will work.

Let us know… what kind of backdrop or props do you use most for your blog photos? And what do you always struggle with?
