Why I’m madly, deeply in love with my teddy biker coat

Don’t say I didn’t warn you! When in a teddy coat, people will want to cuddle with you all day, every day. It must be Paddington bear nostalgia or something.

The oversized teddy bear coat was having a major moment this winter and I couldn’t be happier. If there’s anything I’m loyal to in life, it must be fluffy outerwear. And for good reason, I’ll tell you. Teddy coats manage to give any outfit an unexpected twist and edge and at the same time make you look cute and cozy. It’s a win-win wardrobe situation.

Taking cue from some of the biggest tastemakers (Carven! Ganni! Max Mara! Alexa Chung! Kim K?), the teddy is here to stay. Now, I can almost hear you think ‘isn’t it spring yet?’, but we’re talking about Amsterdam here, so temperatures are rising painfully slowly.

So, for now, I’ll keep myself bundled up. But even if it did become hot, I wouldn’t know if I’d be able to give up this coat. Really, I know it’s ‘just a piece of clothes’ but there are actual feelings involved here. There’s something about this coat that makes me insanely happy. I know this makes me sound slightly creepy, but getting to put it on makes me excited every morning. It’s a part of my daily routine or uniform that gets me in the mood to go out and face the world. (Like a knight in shining teddy?)

Anyway, if this little love story (plus a handful of Instagrams, plus my LFW feature in the Telepgraph – woah!) means you want one for yourself, this might be the right time to mention that I got mine at ASOS. I do believe it’s currently sold out, so this Warehouse baby that’s on sale or this grey biker teddy might be great options. Oh, and PS… they’ve just started offering free returns for all Dutch shoppers.
