Hawkersan – 7 course meal Vegetarian Food Review

Hawkersan, a Pan Asian restaurant located in the Somerset Greenways in MRC Nagar serves 4 course, 5 course and 7 course meals in a fine dining environment. There are not many restaurants in Chennai serving course meals. The restaurant serves only 7 course dinner but options for all the 3 courses are available for lunch. The menu changes everyday and the same menu repeats only once in 10 days. There is also a la carte available but we felt the course meals were better and gives us a lovely dining experience. We loved the fact of a fixed menu for the course as it gives us an opportunity to explore exquisite menu items. Special thanks to Mr. Ram, the staff of Hawkersan were sweet enough to explain us the menu and its specialty. Open only for lunch from 12 to 3 PM and 7 PM to 11 PM, the 7 course is priced to Rs.995/-, 5 course at Rs.795/- and 4 course at Rs.495/-. Now to the menu we had, it was a 7 course dinner with salad, soup, starters – rolls, steamed and grilled, main course and dessert.

For the salad, we had Bon Bo Nam Bo salad – blue color glass noodles which turned pink when the lime vinegar sauce was poured onto it, a theater on plate, the noodles with the sauce was a great start to the meal.

It was a vegetable clear soup in the soup section and the stock was rich and thin. A nice variant to the mostly crystal clear soup.

Under the starters section, we had mix veg spring roll, Jackfruit bao and baby corn satay. The size and quantity of the food served is optimum giving us freedom and option to repeat and try out the ones we like. We have an array such as black pepper, red pepper, tomato tangy and ginger lemon sauces on the table and it goes pretty well with the starters. The baby corn satay was served with peanut sauce and the bao was soft and spongy and it was a surprising stuffing of jackfruit which was mildly sweet.

We had pepper rice and black pepper curry in the main course and it would not be exaggerating if we say it was absolutely yummy going well with each other. We would strongly suggest that restaurants resort to set dishes as a course for that concentrated effort on producing impeccable dishes.

In the desserts, we had Tim Tub Grob, coconut milk based sweet with liberal amount of water chestnuts for that crunch. For the chocolate lovers, there is the irresistible Milo tiramisu.

Overall, the food was pleasantly spiced and very tasty and if you need spicy food, make use of the sauces.
