Outfits That Say Ahoy!

Little can compare to a day spent on the water with your closest crew, wine glass in hand, skin warm from the summer sun. That’s one of the perks of living in Seattle – there’s always a kayak, sailboat or yacht around the corner, ready to board. And in every boat there lies opportunity – outfit opportunity. An excuse to go full-on nautical in stripes, linen, head scarves and giant sunglasses – all at the same time.

Clean. Bright. Preppy. Something that’s blue, white and striped. Hair scarves, red lips, boat shoes and linen shorts. Nautical style is classic and transformative, and it’s something that any yacht-party-going-gal ought to know how to pull off.

7 Nautical Styling Tips For Chic Boat Partying

Try one, or YOLO, try all of these on your next boating adventure (which could be the Seattle Hope Champagne Lunch!).

1. Try a bold, bright color paired with a neutral like white or tan. And that bold color can be something other than blue or red (think bright yellow or green!).
2. Bring your most fabulous pair of sunglasses. Big. Bold. My favorite for boating are thick, white-framed, giant sunnies.
3. Red lips look good on sailboats and yachts alike. Actually any bright lip color works on the water.
4. Don’t forget how windy and/or cold it can get on the water. Flowy skirts can go up with the wind, and forgetting to bring a sweater can leave you chilly!
5. Try a neck or head scarf. It’s so Audrey. And Bridgette. And every other effortlessly-chic-slash-french girl.
6. You can’t go wrong with stripes. It’s the easiest way to look like you belong on a boat!
7. Jeans – in shorts, boyfriend or light form – can pair incredibly well with your nautical ‘fit. Don’t discount the old blue!
8. Wear comfortable shoes. Some of us can stand (and balance) in heels all day – and some of us just can’t. You know who you are. Don’t end up being the Barefoot Champagne Contessa of the party. There’s no shame in a cute pair of flats or sandals!
