Chronic Cockney

I’ve broken up with Velvet Teddy…

Sometimes a person and their lipstick just can’t make it work, no matter how much they love each other. My love for Mac Velvet Teddy Matte Lipstick cannot be denied but sadly, love isn’t always enough…

I’ve had this shade for about 6-8 months. What with my
Chronic Life keeping me at home most of the time & incapacitated a lot of the time, my beauty shopping is done online. So swatching on my skin isn’t an option. I check out reviews online & see how it looks on other people; it looks gorgeous on everybody…except me.

I’ve tried to make it work. Seriously, everything bar couples counselling. The finish is fabulous like all MAC matte lipsticks. I’ve found transfer to be minimal & if you take the time to do the lining/blotting/reapplying thing, these lipsticks really do stay put for quite a while. They also apply beautifully with none of the dragging & patchiness that some matte lipsticks are prone to.

The downside of the matte finish is that it’s not as easy to customise the lipstick’s shade on your lips as it is with, say, the satin finish. For example, Syrup is a gorgeous shade that I wear over a No 7 Plum lip liner; it adds to the plummy richness & suits my skin tone even better than the lipstick alone.

With Velvet Teddy, no lipliner underneath can make it suit my very fair skin. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not hideous; just flat, brown & unremarkable on me. And yet I can’t quite seem to let go…

See what I mean? It’s fine, but not a stunner IMO. Fortunately I have discovered another MAC matte lipstick that is perfect for my skin tone….that’s my next post, keep an eye out for it ?.

Have you ever been disappointed by an iconic product when you finally got your hands on it?

Wishing you good luck & happy days,
Kindra x
