The Makeup Show LA - 2015 Recap

This is the view from the 13th floor (I know 13th floor, but I am not superstitious!) of the California Mart where The Makeup Show was held in Los Angeles. The Makeup Show has been coming to LA for 7 years and this was my very first time attending. The Makeup Show is only open to professional makeup artists and others in the beauty/cosmetics industry. So your probably thinking, what the heck was I doing there! I know, I know...I'm not a MUA, pro or guru of any sort. I was invited to attend as media to share about the event. Although after being at The Makeup Show for 2 days, I may want to change careers. I do love makeup and seeing all the great products and meeting new people at the show gave me the makeup artist itch! The show is held yearly in LA and also in various other cities in the US. You can go to the website to see the dates for the other shows.

Day one consisted of a media/blogger preview with MUA James Vincent one of the founders of The Makeup Show, and a cocktail party. During the media preview, James Vincent introduced us to some of the brands exhibiting during the show. He also gave a quick run down of the seminars and classes being offered during the show. During the cocktail party we got to mingle with some of the makeup artist and brands. We also got a first look at some of the art from Donald Robertson and Ellis Faas. Donald Robertson is artist and illustrator who currently has a collaboration with Smashbox. Ellis Faas is a legendary makeup artist and photographer, she was the keynote speaker and had a gallery display of her work as well. It was a gallery opening and makeup show all rolled up in one night.

It was a fun and exciting night with a special surprise appearance by Kat Von D during the cocktail party. She was there mingling, since it would be the first time her cosmetics line is being presented at the makeup show. I didn't get a picture with her, but caught her chatting with some makeup artist.

Day 2 and 3 consisted of the actual Makeup Show where you can visit the booths and buy products at discounted prices. Many vendors had great deals with up to 50% off their products, and other supplies such as brushes, cases and other items.

Besame was one of my favorite booths, they are a small cosmetics brand who recreates vintage makeup colors and formulas. The packaging and presentation was very cute and retro looking. The staff was also very nice and knowledgeable. I wanted one of everything!

The Makeup Show, wasn't all about makeup. There was a few vendors selling these awesome mirrors with the built in lighting. Some were portable with cases you can carry with you. While other mirrors were huge and beautiful with built in vanities, and other lighting fixtures for the perfect application. I need to find a way to get one of these lighted mirrors in my home!

I was happy to see a few skin car brands at The Makeup Show as well. Because every good MUA knows great makeup starts with great skin. My blogger buddy Marlita Cupcake was working with Mario Bedescu and introduced me to this brand. The lovely people from Mario Bedescu gave me some sample products to test out and I am excited to try them out. You will see a review about them later on the blog. I love the natural ingredients they use and the packing is just so simple and minimal,

All the better known and popular brands like Smashbox were there too. This booth was very popular, since they were letting everyone sign up to get a pro discount with no proof. I immediately signed up and got my pro discount of 30% any future purchases online...woohoo!
It was a great Makeup Show and I am excited to play with all the goodies I received and bought from the show. I am definitely excited to try some new products and beauty looks. Be on the look out for more beauty and makeup post here on the blog. We had lots of fun playing with the hotpoint photo booths as well. Check out these cute gifs from the show with Marlita and OMG Bren, 2 of my fave beauty bloggers.
