Pietsie Campbell

Pietsie Campbell is a graphic designer and photographer who lives and works in Echo Park in Los Angeles. I asked Bo and Kathryn who they would recommend for the next Closet Visit. They both said "Pietsie!". Well,, I didn't even need to think because I trust these ladies's taste and they were right. Even before I looked at Pietsie's closet ,, I was already freaking out about her beautiful house. And then,, There was the closet! I really liked how her style was mixed. A little bit of Ethnic, a little bit of modern, a little bit of rock chic and feminine. I know I keep saying this on every post but Pietsie is one of the nicest people I've ever met. And her lovely dog Clementine was a sweetheart. Loved hanging out with them. Thanks, Pietsie!
What kind of graphic design work do you do? I do mostly web and print - especially look books for my designer friends. I'm getting to do more of those and love it!
Describe your personal style. Hodge podge, I like too many styles to settle on just one.
What are your favorite place to shop? Mohawk General Store, La Garconne, A.P.C, Tavin, Pasadena City College Flea Market
Who are your favorite designers? For summer, it’s A.P.C. Madras, Beatrice Valenzuela, Dosa and vintage caftans. For winter, A.P.C., Henrik Vibskov, Common Projects, Isabelle Marant Etoile, Cacharel, Soyer cashmere, and vintage. For jewelry it’s Kathryn Bentley jewelry mixed with vintage pieces from my grandmother and anything from Afghanistan or Kyrgyzstan.
Current trend you like, current trend you dislike. Is layering a current trend? I don’t really have a trend I dislike – I’m a sucker for new ideas & directions if they’re done well. Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly? A.P.C. Cotton Tunics
Who are your style icons? My friends and my little sister - all so stylish, they inspire me to make an effort when dressing. I love Francoise Hardy’s style in the 60’s and Nina Van Pallandt in ‘The Long Goodbye’.
Do you have any items you've been eyeing for winter? Some loose tunic dresses from Cacharel and Henrik Vibskov Do you have any stories about amazing deals you've gotten on awesome pieces? When I was fifteen my older sister lived in New York and sent me a big box of her castoffs. There were some amazing labels in that box and of course I had to wear them to school, but a smelly locker in gym class isn’t the best place for a Missoni sweater dress.
Can you give us smart shopping advice? Editing your closet is key. Every season I pull everything out and give a lot of clothes away or consign, otherwise things get too cluttered and you can’t see what you have. What is your most recent purchase? A pair of vintage knee-high boots.
What's your typical day like? A morning walk to Fix coffee shop with my dog Clementine, then work, a tea break at 4 and then a proper hike with Clemmie & my friend Caitlin in Elysian park before dark. A great dinner with my husband and friends is what I look forward to, but funnily, my peak creative time is between 6pm and 3am, especially if I’m on a deadline – so then I rock the tunes and get going until my eyes get blurry and I can’t see the screen anymore.
