That Day I Twirled Around In Wedding Dresses

Girls. Can you believe this? Can you believe that I am married women who (up until last month) had never tried on a wedding dress? It’s pretty unheard of here in the United States. As many of y’all know, Esposo and I eloped and while we don’t have any regrets about it, it wasn’t until I went to a blogger event at Alfred Angelo when I realized, “Dang it, man…I LOOK good in wedding dresses!”

But then again, who doesn’t? After the bride, a wedding dress is like the star of the show at a wedding. So why shouldn’t it make you look like the stunning woman (or man…hey, do yo thang!) that you are?

Blogger Lee of My SentimentExactlee and her husband decided to renew their vows and go all out with a fabulous wedding’ish affair. Like me, Lee didn’t have the big blow out wedding so she really wants to go large with her renewal ceremony. In honor of this affair, Lee launched the Alfred Angelo Real Women/Real Brides MySentimentExactLee Curated Collection. The idea is she wanted to inspire women to truly love the bodies that they are in and to find wedding dresses in which they could feel fierce in.

She got together a group of bloggers to have us all play around in dresses. She could not have selected a more perfect group as we were all diverse women with various body types. Alfred Angelo has dress sizes going up to size 26 (IN STORES!!!) so there were plenty of options for everyone. Many of the girls flocked over to the Disney dresses. And rightfully so because they were absolutely stunning.

But they weren’t exactly my style which is why I handpicked a few funky dresses to play around in. I am far from a princess’y girl. I’m a girl who, despite wanting to lose a few pounds, is pretty confident in her body. I wanted something funky, un-traditional and pretty daring but still classy. I tried on 3 dresses and this baby ended up being my favorite.

I didn’t want to take it off. I wanted to take a nap in the dress. Skip in the dress. Go to the store and pick up almond milk in the dress. It’s funny how despite my own personal insecurities, I was still able to feel absolutely beautiful. That dress didn’t make me. I made that dress. And I think, I think, is a feeling that all brides should feel.

FTC Disclosure: In exchange for our experience, we received a gift certificate for a formal wear piece. This was a surprise because honestly, I would have PAID to attend something this special and magnificent.
