Please excuse the bags under my eyes - I had such plans for our day trip to Brussels, until insomnia intervened. I managed to get something like three and a half hours of sleep between when we went to bed and the early hour when our train departed the next morning, despite having planned on a full eight. Napping on the train wasn't much help. The trip from Paris to Brussels is short, but it took up most of the energy I had for the day, so we didn't do much more while we were there than wander the lovely old town around Grande Place, stopping for waffles, sandwiches, chocolates and fruit beer at various intervals throughout the day. If I'm being honest - it was the most unintentionally relaxed day of holidays I've taken in a long time. I admit that the type A part of me wishes I hadn't wasted so much time in a city I love, but the truth is, we still had a lot of fun - and slowing down for a day was probably just what I needed. Since Brussels can be quite a lot colder than Paris, I keep my outfit simple and focussed on staying warm, knowing we'd be spending a lot of time outside. And I was so glad I'd brought a pair of flats to change into - the cobblestones are killer!
