Confession: the real reason I liked one of my first boyfriends was that he only wore black. I'm not sure that even I saw it all that clearly at the time but it was his fashion sense that I was attracted to. I've always loved the look of head-to-toe black, but when I was fourteen, my babysitting money only went so far and most of my wardrobe consisted of what my parents bought for me. And since we lived in Winnipeg, warmth, not style, was always the primary concern. Part of what I love about black on black is how surprising it can be; it's easy to dismiss wearing a single colour as boring or predictable, but personally, I think it forces me to push the limits of my style further because I have to look to textures and fabrics to make a statement that bright shades otherwise would. I talk about my love for all black everything a lot, so tell me - how do you wear it?
J'avoue: la vraie raison pourquoi j'aimais un de mes premiers copains, c'était qu'il ne portait que le noir. Je ne sais pas si je le savais à l'époque mais c'était son instinct pour la mode qui m'attirait. J'ai toujours adoré le look total noir, mais à mes quatorze ans, je gagnais mon argent faisant de la garde d'enfants et donc mes parents achetaient la bonne partie de mes vêtements. Et étant donné que nous habitions à Winnipeg, c'était la chaleur, et non la classe, qui nous était la plus importante. Le total noir est souvent surprenant, je trouve; nous pouvons facilement rejeter une seule couleur comme étant ennuyeux ou prévisible, mais je crois que le noir s'impose et donc je dépasse les limites de mon style car je cherche des tissus inattendus afin d'apporter le même intérêt que les couleurs vives en peuvent.
