COCKTAILS AT 6 :: THE TANGERINE SPRITZ

Here’s an odd little fact: Tangerines are one of my most favorite fruits. I could eat them all day long – and yet – have I ever once thought about putting them in a cocktail? Nope. I usually reserve that for my friend, Grapefruit. (We’ll get to him later.) But today, my friends, I share with you my latest discovery… Skinnygirl® Tangerine Vodka.

First off, you should know that what makes Skinnygirl® Cocktails …well… skinny, is that it’s not as loaded with sugar as most alcohols. They use natural flavors and agave, which means that the palate is smooth and subtle, not overwhelmingly sweet. My kinda cocktail.

What you should know about tangerines is that they happen to mix incredibly well into one of my most easy, favorite warm weather cocktails ever: The Aperol Spritz. Generally, this drink calls for Aperol and prosecco with a splash of soda water. But we put our own twist on things and came up with something quite refreshing…

The Tangerine Spritz // serves 1

To serve: scoop a hand full of ice into a glass, and add the vodka and Aperol. Squeeze in the juice from one or two tangerine slices for a fresh tart kick. Then add a splash of soda water to the top, stir, and garnish with a tangerine peel! Don’t you just love that color?

We opted for soda water over prosecco, but if you like something a bit sweeter, definitely top your drink with some bubbles! Now go enjoy that sexy, Italian drink on a sun-soaked patio somewhere! Or, you know, inside with the heat cranked until summer decides to show up…
