Cupcake Pop Up Card in a Box (with template)

It's cupcake time with today's card in a box project. This was the first of my February class projects. I haven't used Create a Cupcake (& its matching punch) in ages & this helped me remember how much I love it. I think my class gals appreciated its return too since it's been a very popular set & no calories either.
This version is a little smaller than my starburst card in a box as I wanted to make a version that fitted a standard C6 envelope. I've included my measurements & a template for you at the bottom of the post.
Here are the yummy cupcakes up close. The colour combo of tangerine tango, baked brown sugar, pool party, bermuda bay & so saffron I used came mainly from the funky Retro Fresh DSP.
Colour Tip: The Retro Fresh dsp has a vanilla base, but the cupcakes are stamped on whisper white card, as I found the colours changed a little on vanilla. You can't see the difference in the finished project as the border around the stamped images is small.
Here's a side view, so you can see the layering. I used an punched xl oval on each insert - horizontally in the front & vertically on the back - to give the needed height to the cupcakes. The cupcakes are attached to a strip of card & then attached to the ovals (seen a little on the back view below).
I carried the cupcakes to the back too. The sentiment is from Remembering Your Birthday.
Here's one more pic of the card folded flat.
Card in a Box Cutting Template Finished Size when flat: 11cm x 15cm. Individual panels are 5.5cm wide. Cut Base: 23.5cm x 15cm Score base: 5.5cm, 11cm, 16.5cm & 22cm on long side. Score at 8cm on short side Inserts: Cut at 8.5 cm x 1.5cm. Score at 1.5cm from either end If you're more visual, here's the template I put together. Broken lines are score lines. Red lines are cutting lines.
Check out Monica Gale's fab video tutorial for visual instructions on how to make a card in a box. Follow the same principles - just substitute my cutting measurements.
Prefer inches? My metric measurements translate approximately to...
Finished Size when flat: 4-1/2 x 6 inches. Individual panels are 2-1/4 inches wide.
Cut Base: 9.5 x 6 inches Score base: 2-1/4, 4-1/2, 6-3/4 & 9 inches on long side. Score at 3-1/4 inches on short side. Inserts: Cut at 3-1/4 inches x 3/4 inch. Score at 1/2 inch from either end You can also check out this Splitcoaststampers card in a box tutorial for a slightly different sized version in inches too.
This post has taken much longer to write than expected (apparently a tad distracted by Matthew McConaughey on the Graham Norton Show), so I'll have to share another birthday version using the Retro Fresh paper next time. Thanks for visiting & hope you're enjoying my card in a box projects. I'd love to hear from you if you do. Inky wishes, Di
