When I was home in Connecticut a few weeks ago, Lizzie presented me and Tine with these adorable MOH hangers from Anthropologie. They are no longer on their website, but you can find them here. She also gave us a beautiful picture frame with a funny picture of the three of us. I’ll spare us all the embarrassment and not post it…here’s one from that night instead:
From what I understand – bridal/grooms party roles have changed quite a bit over the years. Tine has a vintage Wedding Etiquette book that is absolutely hilarious. Did you know the best man used to plan/pay for the honeymoon? Also, the maid of honor was apparently in charge of covering any forgotten expenses on the wedding day. I don’t think Ryan’s BM or Lizzie’s MOH will be doing either of those things… but we will do a lot!
Nowadays, the MOH has the most important role of all parties in the wedding. According to The Knot, the MOH is not only responsible for quite the long list of duties, but she also expected to remember to listen to the bride, make her laugh, and offer emotional/logistical support during the wedding planning process. All of this is easy considering it’s the same duties of SISTER – and I have that one covered.
Tine and I will be sharing the duties of MOH – since she lives in Connecticut just minutes from Lizzie, she will probably help her with a lot more than I will be able to, which makes me a bit sad. I am happy to report that I visited the wedding venue that she booked in January though! And when I flew home this month, I was able to go with Lizzie to try on wedding dresses. I am SO thrilled she found the dress of her dreams at Everthine Bridal Boutique.
I’ve promised the Bride I will do my best to make her laugh with stories about Annabelle when she is stressed, to conduct the party train at her bachelorette in Provincetown, CT, to throw the most beautiful bridal shower ever, and to never tell her of anything that goes wrong at her wedding. That last one is the most important job a MOH has… always keep the bride smiling, happy, and her glass full of bubbly.
Have you ever been a Maid of Honor?
