Clio Lipnicure Test and Review; With Kill Lip Primer, Lip Balm & Gloss

Clio Lipnicure is one of those products I have wanted to try for a long time but somehow I resisted. This product by Clio (medium end Korean cosmetics brand) is a stain and when it dries it is supposed to be bomb proof.

But! I know my lips (dry). And I know this kind of long lasting stain (drying). So I got prepared and bought the whole ‘set’ as recommended by Clio which is their Lip Balm, Lip Base/Concealer, then Lipnicure, THEN the glossy top coat. Yeah…it’s quite an investment.

I have 10. Heartless Coral.

Swatches:

Here are the other bits I bought – lip balm and lip concealer:

These were about £9 each, which are a bit expensive but I didn’t mind making the investment since I can use these with any other lip products. The lip balm is quite light and works well under any lipstick as it isn’t greasy. The lip concealer cancels out very red and pink lips. It’s also quite smoothing but with the balm as well, it starts to feel heavy.
Back to the Lipnicure:

The top coat is applied after the colour has dried, and it is a sheer, almost oily type of clear gloss. I think this kind of light oily texture means it settles nicely on top of the colour.
The applicator is lovely and curves to fit the lips:

Anyway – as predicted – I used this colour without any side dishes, so to speak, and the result is quite horrible – dry, chapped looking lips that just look BAD. It looks so unhealthy. I honestly don’t know whose lips could take this kind of battering without drying out:

I tried the colour again with the base products and top coat – much better. My lips looked much healthier HOWEVER it absolutely did reduce the amount of time it lasted on my lips – as I ate and drank, the colour started to slide off – no doubt because of the double base thing going on. Lip Concealer also dilutes the finish of the lip colour so perhaps, I would omit that for a slightly more long lasting finish.

These products are sold on eBay – I would say to successfully use this lip product you need to use at one other product to keep your lips from looking like shrivelled up prunes.
Have you tried Lipnicure?
