Watercolor Apples In Rainbow Colors For Rosh HaShana Cards!

Once you start painting with watercolors, it is hard to stop, so I thought I'd practice trying to paint loosely with this idea for a sweet card for Rosh HaShana — tiny watercolors in rainbow colors do look cute, and you certainly don't have to be perfect, in fact the less perfect the better, I'm still working on that!

You'll Need:

• watercolor paper
• watercolors and brushes, including a very small one/ or a fine lined permanent marker
• a pencil

How To:

1. Fold your piece of watercolor paper in half to make a card, and burnish the crease with a credit card or bone folder.
2. Draw outlines of apples on your card, just the apple shape, not the stem, and make sure apples are more or less lined up and the same size. (My original top row was too large, so I cut it off, looks so much better with out it!)
3. With objects this small, wetting the paper first is not a good idea as then the color runs too much, so just wet your brush a bit, apply some color to the apple, and then move that color around with a wet brush.
4. Experiment painting the apples in different ways, and blend colors as you move a long the rainbow.
5. Add stems and apple seeds using a small brush.
6. Set aside to dry on a level surface, and once totally dry, press within a large dictionary to flatten.

Oh, and by the way, if you don't love the page of apples, don't throw it away, individual apples can be cut out and used on gift tags, place holders, you name it!
