Crochet Blanket

How was Easter for you? Did the sun warm you up too? We enjoyed a beautiful weekend with family, working in the garden, enjoying good food and just spending time together. It is always a little rough to start your week on a Tuesday after a long weekend, but laundry is almost done and I took my camera out this afternoon to get some shots of my latest WIP.

It’s a baby crochet blanket for our baby girl, to be born in 4 months from now. How time flies… I came across this book two weeks ago, and started right on with Bergere de France yarn Sonora I found in my stash. The never ending joy of working up a project with yarn from your stash, I can’t get enough of that feeling.

The squares worked up really quickly, I stuck to the pattern when it came to the border and now it’s only the ends that have to be sewn in. All 340 of them. Ahum. It is a good thing the sun is out so I can at least enjoy the warmth of Spring while working away this crazy number of ends!

The pattern aims to use up some scraps of colour by working only one round per square with different colours. Since I had full balls of yarn of each colour instead, there’s quite some left. This whole being pregnant and becoming a mama is new to me, but I think and hope I would love to go out with the stroller this Summer, wearing a matching shawl to my daughters’ blanket (by the way it is really awkward to see these two words typed on my screen: my daughter. Luckily I have a couple more months to get used to that!). Any advice or experience on that subject is very welcome.

So I searched online for a suitable pattern with a lace-like structure and found this fabulous Gypsy Shawl pattern by my long time online crochet friend Sandra over at Cherry Heart. I am assuming you all know of her and her stunning designs, if you don’t just have a look and you’ll instantly know what I am talking about.

I quite like the first triangles I made and hope I have enough yarn left to finish a decent size shawl or wrap with them. To be continued…
