Wonderful Wine Co. from Club W

These colors! This wine label made me so happy that I just had to try the wine. Spoiler alert: the wine was tasty too! Happy #WineWednesday, you guys! I’m going to be really honest. I’m still learning how to taste wine. My mouth knows what it likes. But I sometimes don’t know how to describe what I’m drinking. The purpose of these posts is to tell you about the wine that I am trying, and also give me practice tasting them. I know that sounds borderline ridiculous, that I need to practice tasting wine. But I really want to get better at it. Not like, swallowing or whatever but picking out the things I like or don’t like about the wines. This particular wine comes from Wonderful Wine Co. and was bought through Club W
(see my first post about joining the club here) and from the description on the site, I knew it had to be mine. “The wine smells like perfume. From the nose to the palate, you get the best of both worlds in this white blend, Viognier, being one of the most aromatic varietals, gives the wine its rich aromas of sugar, spice, tropical fruit and exotic florals. Roussanne, on the other hand, gives it a silky texture that’s almost similar to a Pinot Noir. Sometimes these types of blends will have some oak influences, but not here. The flavors are all about the purity of the fruit.” I am definitely partial to whites so this white blend seemed perfect. I don’t love Chardonnay, mostly for the oak (at least that has been my deduction so far), so this sounded like something I could try and have a good chance of liking it.
So I got to tasting. And while I didn’t pick up all of what they were putting down in their description, it was a nice wine. It smelled sweet (their tasting card mentioned notes of bubble gum, banana and peach candy). But it didn’t taste sweet. They way it felt in your mouth was very similar to a Chardonnay, in my opinion. It was a little thicker in weight than my usual Sauvignon Blanc and a touch silky. I really thought I was picking up some oak but, per their notes, I was not? This wasn’t my favorite wine for that reason, although a Chardonnay lover would probably really enjoy this white blend. Again this has more to do with my taste preferences than with the wine itself. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on this if you try it. I would absolutely serve this to friends, especially if I didn’t know their wine likes ahead of time. Especially because it would look simply stunning on your table.
