Fashion Blogger Spotlight: Isabell of Dressing Outside The Box

Hope you enjoyed meeting UK blogger Stephanie of Nerd About Town last week. This week, we are moving across the English Channel to meet up with German blogger Isabell of Dressing Outside the Box. Isabell is a fashion designer, so you know she knows great style, and her goal of inspiring body confidence in others is just so inspiring. Her style is minimalist, chic, and a bit androgynous, but Isabell is really just all about abandoning fashion rules and dressing for herself, without labels. She is a plus size blogger YOU NEED TO KNOW!!

What made you want to become a fashion blogger?
I have always been into fashion so it has been only consequential to me becoming a fashion designer. Never really feeling comfortable in my own skin, it just didn’t occurred to me that I could convey my love of fashion through my own body. I have designed beautiful clothes for others but didn’t dare to use fashion for myself. Then I came across plus-size blogs that changed my perspective and, with it, my whole life. It has been a journey of almost 2 years from rejecting my body to completely falling in love with it. Once I became the confident woman I am today, I developed the wish of sharing my experience, hoping it will help others to experience the same.

What are the challenges, if any, you face in being plus-size?
The biggest challenge for me is finding clothes which are really fashion forward. At my job I am constantly learning about new trends and I am seeing fast fashion retailers such as Zara putting these in action so quickly while us plus-size girls have to wait often a half year or longer until plus-size brands dare to offer them in their collection. Of course, I also see that the plus industry is improving a lot now, but for me as a fashion designer only wanting to be able to wear the newest trends, it is not yet satisfying.

What’s your favorite thing about being plus size?
Now that I have learned to love my body, I really like the idea of not fitting in. After years and years of only longing to be so-called “normal”, I could finally break free from it. It feels so liberating. For the first time, I feel that I can finally be myself.

What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger? A plus size fashion blogger?
One thing is definitely being able to put yourself out there and stepping out of your comfort zone. I would have never believed how affirming this could be if I hadn’t experienced it myself. My most favorite part about being a blogger is belonging to a wonderful network of lovely and inspiring people. Just being a part of it and being able to reach others and maybe being able to make a change is making me proud.

Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
I love labels such as Isabel Marant, Céline and Jil Sander. But when it comes to plus-size fashion, my favorites are definitely ASOS, Eloquii, Junarose, Zizzi and Carmakoma. And I really like the wide fit shoe range from New Look.

Describe your personal style.
This is a really tough one because I believe that I can’t be put in a box. But besides that I consider my style to be clean, minimalistic, up to date and effortless.

Any bloggers currently on your radar?
I am totally in love with Anissa from Anisacrament, Miss Lion Hunter and Tinu from Tinuology. These three are raising fashion to a whole new level.

Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
Be unapologetically yourself. Don’t ever let anyone else make you feel less worth than you are. You are perfect just the way you are, and you are worth all the love and happiness!
