Julep – Hartleigh [+ February Bombshell Maven Box]

Another month, another Julep box I meant to skip, but this one came with a special Valentine’s Day polish as a gift so… I guess it’s okay. Right?

Actually, by the time I realized I hadn’t skipped the box I had no idea what I was getting – so I will say it was a lot more fun opening the box not knowing what I’d be getting!

My February Bombshell box included two polishes: Elise (indigo with purple microshimmer) and Keiko (charred olive shimmer), the Julep Glow Highlighting Powder, and the special Valentine’s polish: Hartleigh.

Hartleigh is a glitter top coat with red hearts, two sizes of matte hex white glitter, fine red glitter and a sprinkling of holographic bits throughout. The application was fine. I applied Hartleigh like I would any other polish then dabbed the hearts where I wanted them. The hearts were a bit too big and I probably should have used a toothpick to help them settle. It didn’t bother me at all, but in some of the pictures they look slightly lifted.

I swatched it over Essie Licorice first and wore that for the majority of last week – the white/black/red combination made me think of playing cards but I did get a lot of compliments. Over black, I felt like the white glitter over powered the hearts so I also swatched it over OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls which I liked a lot better.

Overall, this polish is just okay. It’s weird because I love hearts and I love glitter. This polish just seems a bit immature and gimmicky to me. It’s fun enough for Valentine’s Day but it’ll probably end up in my swap box. I prefer either a more uniform glitter, or full coverage (like last week’s SinfulColors Pinky Glitter). As far as the Bombshell box goes, I’m REALLY excited about Keiko and I hope Alli’s excited for Elisa because it’s right up her alley. Alli’s Alley… get it?

Julep polishes retail on their website for 14, but if you’re a Julep Maven they cost 11.20. You can also shop Julep at Sephora!
