How To Pull Off Fall Western Without Looking Like A Cowboy

When I first saw the western trend hit the runway last year, my immediate thought was “no thanks.”

Being a South Texas gal, the only thing that cowboy boots and a bandana remind me of is being back home on the farm. Not that western dressing is a bad thing, but I’ve always considered there to be a time and a place to pull out my western wear. That was until I started to recently see product popping up all over my feed. With so many adorable boots, chic blouses and cowgirl inspired dresses, I have finally warmed up to the idea of wearing western outside of the wild, wild west.

Wear One Piece, Not All

The easiest way to inject a little yeehaw into your outfit is to wear a pair of lace-up boots with cowboy edge. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair of western kicks and finally decided on this set by DVF. The detail is incredibly understated so it won’t stand out too much.

For The Frill Of It

Just because you’re going western doesn’t mean you have to bust out the paisley and print. Cowgirls also rock lovely lace tops and ruffles with floral print instead of plaid.

Be Bold With A Belt

Another very easy way to add a western nod to your look is to partner your outfit with a belt. While I’m not much of a belt girl myself, I’ve been eyeing this one because it’s very versatile and not too western themed.

It’s In The Bag

In addition to jewelry and belts, a bag is a great way to incorporate the western trend into your wardrobe this season. Find a bag with suede and fringe details, or silver buckles and hardware.

The Dress To Impress

After looking at all sorts of western inspired dresses, this one has to be my favorite. It’s flattering, it’s plaid but not too in your face plaid. It can also be worn in August through November. A great investment piece.
