Big Yum's - Beef Curry Soup

I'm always a fan of soups that are actually meals, especially when it involves curry. This noodle shop across the street from school is a dangerously addicting place, and has become a new guilty pleasure of mine. Fragrant beef, strips of sweet yam topped with peanuts fulfill every craving, whether it's sweet, salty, or savory.

I've discovered my favorite type of restaurant is consistently Asian Fusion; perhaps am a little biased, but I find that it's always able to offer something appetizing that is trendy, upscale, exotic, and yet familiar. Recently we discussed in class exactly what makes something "Asian"; it's hard to define especially nowadays when global inspiration can be drawn instantaneously. I love its industrial, minimalistic design, and yet Western design can certainly be this way as well.

Perhaps a better way to describe it would be to compare the interiors to the warm, timber-frame construction of Central-Asian temples, and the arrangement of space to a horizontal scroll painting; distinct to Asia, the horizontal scroll was designed to be read in segments at a time, and water or space for contemplation was depicted through unpainted space. The long, cut-out is reminiscent of Japanese architecture, particularly that of Fuhimiko Maki:

The infinite calm of undecorated negative space, and belief in the intrinsic peace that correct placement brings - is this not fengshui, zen, and very much of Central-Asian aesthetic? Share your thoughts.
