The Boho-Glam Apartment of Sera Hersham-Loftus

I’ve featured the talented interior decorator Sera Hersham Loftus (aka Sera of London) on the blog before. Particularly her fabulous lampshade designs. So when I was offered images of her apartment to share with you all, I just jumped at the chance.

The words that immediately come to mind are bohemian, glamorous, decadent, exotic, feminine, eclectic, unique, inspiring and utterly beautiful. It’s a home of many layers. Exposed bricks in places and untreated wooden floors are the backdrop to intricate mouldings on other walls, French antiques, beautiful textiles, lush plants, inherited paintings, and of course her own stunning lamps.

Interestingly Sera has painted all of her ceilings black. She says ‘a dark ceiling grounds the space – with white ceilings, everything gets lost’. And she rarely uses overhead lights, so there are wall lights and lamps everywhere which must make the space even more magical at night.

Even the kitchen is unique. Sera copied the design of a forties console (left of the range) to make the units and tiled the walls in glossy black. But it’s not too over the top or glamorous for a kitchen because she has then added an antique table and leather and metal chairs for a more industrial touch.

The bedroom is yet another room of contrasts. The brick fireplace and bare floor boards are softened by African textiles at the window, silk and lace on the bed and all manner of collected items. The result is a warm and romantic boudoir.

Even the wallpaper behind the bed was sourced in Hong Kong.

And as you would expect there’s a dressing room filled with antique dresses and accessories.

And the odd touch of whimsy. Or two, or three…

And a bathroom full of glitter and lace.

You can find Sera’s collection of seductive lighting, cushions, furniture and accessories on Sera of London.
