2014 Governors Awards

Because the Oscars isn’t enough annual ego masturbation for the movie industry – it’s the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Governors Awards!

JESSICA CHASTAIN
gown by Nina Ricci, shoes by Nicholas Kirkwood

Perfect. The tuxedo-esque lapel combined with the lace is just so elegant. She looks effortless, but astonishingly expensive.

EMILY BLUNT
gown by Michael Kors, purse by Rauwolf

The mermaid skirt is not my preferred silhouette, but I love the color, the high waistline, and the floral pattern on the bodice.

FELICITY JONES
gown by Prada, purse by Edie Parker

Dramatic and weird, but in a really excellent way. The side cut-outs on the gown are subtle, but keep things modern and youthful.

MICHELLE MONAGHAN
gown by J. Mendel

It was definitely one person’s job to constantly readjust Michelle’s skirt all night so that the colors lined up perfectly. And it was worth it. It’s a little long, but it’s romantic and the draping is gorgeous.

TILDA SWINTON
gown by Schiaparelli

I hope when aliens land on our planet, they discover Tilda Swinton first, so they know we are all omnipotent robots who look like David Bowie. TILDA IS THE GREATEST.

ZENDAYA COLEMAN
gown by Christian Siriano, shoes by Christian Louboutin

It’s not exactly earth-shattering, but she’s usually wearing an ever-so-slightly askew fedora, so I’ll take what I can get with Zendaya.

MARION COTILLARD
gown by Christian Dior

It’s… fine. It might be a bigger deal on someone else, but Marion Cotillard always wears Dior. Her tampons are probably Dior. So I can’t go too crazy over yet another Dior ball gown.

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY
dress by Nina Ricci, shoes by Jimmy Choo

I’m not a fan of the hair, and I think the shoes would work better for a more casual event, but this dress is delightful on her.

REESE WITHERSPOON
dress by Ralph Lauren

Photo: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic

A fantastic color, and the matching lipstick is great. It’s not particularly interesting, but neither is most of what Reese wears.

HILARY SWANK
dress by Antonio Berardi

Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty

I like dresses that look like suits and coats, but this one just feels so awkward. And the First Lady hair isn’t helping. Mellie from Scandal is pissed you stole her wig.

JENNIFER ANISTON
dress by Zuhair Murad

Jennifer Aniston will be wearing little black dresses until she is a thousand years old.
