What a truly stunning city Budapest is! The architecture is like nothing I've ever seen before. And not to diminish the other beautiful places we visited, but if I had to pick one place to spend more time in, it would probably be Budapest. We spent our first night wandering around the light-filled streets of Pest (the portion of the city on the east bank of the Danube), sampling some of the delicious foods and hot beverages at the Christmas Market, and peeking in cute shops filled with embroidered lace, hand-painted ornaments, and beautiful cut crystal. The next day we checked out the castle district of Buda (west bank) and visited
Matthias Church and admired the dazzling painted patterns inside (I wish my photos had turned out a little better of the incredible detail inside, but you'll just have to visit and see for yourself ;-).
