RESURRECTION

(Me, circa summer of 2011)
Hi All, Are you still there? I've decided that I will resurrect this blog after all. However, instead of taking the route I used to take, I'm going a slightly different path. This blog will become kind of a mash-up between some personal style, a bit of behind-the-scenes, and some personal tidbits from my non-fashionable life as a Patent Law student. I really hope to share the challenges of balancing a day job as a patent law student/eventual patent lawyer and a side job as a freelance stylist. While I most likely won't blog much about law (I created In Her Stilettos at first to find a creative escape from Chemical Engineering classes and school after all), I will talk about being a non-creatively trained person in a creative's world. I also hope to blog this time for me. While the Stylish Sophisticate will be more polished, this particular space will be more casual and hopefully fun.

A bit of an update on my life and style in case there are any old readers still hanging around...
I'm now officially settled into NYC. I love it here, but I'm very much still proud to consider myself a Texan. I think about moving back to Texas eventually a lot, but I moved to NYC to be away from my safety net and to challenge myself.
A big reason of why I ended up abandoning this blog previously was because of school, but there were additional considerations that contributed to the decision. I wanted to do well my 1L (equivalent of "law school freshman") year grades-wise, but I REALLY wanted to take a break away from the Fashion Scene because it was starting to cloud my judgment in a variety of ways. I will spare you the details, but let's just say... the mental break was much needed, and I enjoyed not being in front of the limelight. I still very much prefer to be behind the camera and to be a stylist and creative director on shoots, hence why this blog will turn into more of a blog documenting my styling projects as well as a bit of personal style.

Now I'm going into my last (3L) year of Law School. I'm interning at Big Law (that's what they call the bigger, international law firms) for the summer in their Patent Litigation department. I am also a Trade Secrets Fellow and I am working on the NYC Bar Sci & Law Committee.
Finally, as you might know, I've founded the Stylish Sophisticate as a professional style magazine. As a fashion-loving girl first in Chemical Engineering/Biochemistry and now in Law, I have noticed a lack of of fashion guidance in fashion magazines for those of us with nine-to-five jobs and DRESS CODES at those jobs.
As for my personal style, I've changed quite a bit. You will see. I'm still as maximalistic as ever, but I've grown up just a tad on my fashion choices. I still love crazy pants and shoes, but I'm also drawn to the utility of the perfectly-constructed blazer or a classic silk cream button-down blouse.
I hope you will stay around to grow with me,
-Diya
