How To Get the Perfect Blanket Stitch

I am going to let you in on a little secret. When I was a tween/teenager I was a loser. I guess thats not a big secret since I really don't have that many friends as an adult. And based on my writing technique and social skills, I think it would be easy for you to guess that growing up I was not the "cool kid."

The first summer that my family moved from Arizona to Idaho (talk about a weather shock) my sister and I didn't have any friends except each other so each day we would ride our bikes about a mile to my grandmothers house. We would watch old Shirley Temple movies, eat chocolates and sew together. One of our first projects was a blanket.

My grandmother is a professional seamstress, so any lessons from her were amazing! Not to mention that my mother is an incredible seamstress herself! (Its a real miracle I still don't know too much about sewing...) Aaaaanyway...

I bring to you today, the trick to the perfect blanket stitch.

All you have to do is draw on your non-dominant pointer finger by making evenly spaced hash marks. Then when you start to stitch, just hold your finger above your edge and you can judge where your next stitch should be placed!

Boom. I know I just blew your mind. :)

Happy Sunday!
