Books for a Snowstorm

Connecticut is about to be slammed with a wall of white. Blizzard conditions, 1-2 feet of snow, power outages, parking bans… the next two days look grim. Grim, that is, if you’re not a reader.

I relish these storms because it’s a perfect excuse to stay inside, sip hot beverages (hot chocolate with chili, anyone?), cuddle up and read. Here’s what’s helping me survive the storm:

  1. The pleasure read: The Goldfinch: A Novel (Pulitzer Prize for Fiction)
by Donna Tartt. As previously mentioned, I’m sinking my teeth into last year’s blockbuster and loving every minute of it. High- or low-lit, it doesn’t matter. This book is like a rich, chocolate chip cookie for my mind.
  • The magazine: still working through this New Yorker. It’s embarrassing, I know.
  • The classic: For Whom the Bell Tolls
  • by Ernest Hemingway. After a love affair with The Sun Also Rises, I bought up every Hemingway book I could find in second-hand stores… and promptly relinquished them to the back of our book closet. I’m digging one out to start these next two days of primarily indoor living.

What’s on your snowstorm list? I’m looking for some recommendations should this storm drag on!
