Spring Vibes: Lauren Max Photography

Happy Monday, ya’ll! Even though I’m back in the office today I’m still day dreaming about the great weekend weather we just had. Nothing gives me the warm-and-fuzzies like the transition from one season to the next. I’m getting some seasonal inspiration today looking at photographs by Lauren Max. Her images perfectly capture the feeling of a carefree Spring- arms are starting to lose their sleeves, fruits are coming into season, rays of sunlight are suddenly appearing. We caught up with Lauren on what inspires her and what she has planned for the warmer weather.

What are your favorite Spring/Summer activities?
BBQ’s, road trips, and lazy days at the beach with friends.

What are you looking forward to this Spring/Summer?
I am looking forward to visiting some of my lovely friends in San Francisco at the end of May, having my birthday bash on June 8th, and only having to wear a single layer of clothing (something that happens for only a few precious months out of the year here in the Northwest).

Who inspires your photography?
There’s a couple of international photographers whose work I really admire, one being a guy from Poland by the name of Lukasz Wierzbowski, and a couple that act as a photography team out of Ukraine called Syncrodogs. Both of their styles exhibit something totally wild and fresh in the subject matter that never fails to surprise and impress me.

Describe your subject matter or your process?
I enjoy experimenting with new ideas each time I shoot. Often I approach a shoot with a loose vision, yet remain open to new possibilities. I don’t know exactly the shot I want until I discover it in the moment. For me, shooting portraits is a collaborative exchange between the subject and I. I’m more interested in capturing the between-shots shots, when I can catch subjects exuding their authentic, natural beauty. The process of finding that perfect moment is just as important as the final product itself.

Can you describe one memorable experience you had while taking photos?
One of my favorite recent memories while taking photos is when my friend, Regina, and I went on a road trip last summer from Big Sur, CA back to Seattle. We had the best time exploring the beaches, forests, and strange towns along the way. The set is called ‘West is Best’, which can be viewed on my website.

Describe your style or style icon.
I wear a lot of black, it always feels classy and striking at the same time. I also have a lot of wild floral and tribal prints in my wardrobe that I like to throw in to put a funky spin on things. In regards to a style icon, I don’t really have a specific person. I feel like I get most of my style inspiration from just seeing what others around me are wearing, whether it be a stranger on the street, or a friend of mine. I follow a few style blogs as well; The Sartorialist is well known, but definitely one of my favorites.
