Happy Veterans day, yesterday

I missed the official holiday yesterday but its never too late to say 'thank you' to all our veterans and troops who have risked their lives to keep us safe and protected.

I can get behind many causes and feel strongly about lots of charities. but the two that constantly bring me to tears are anything to do with children not given a proper chance at life (abused, neglected, not loved, ugh) and Vets being neglected and not being properly appreciated, especially when they suffer from physical or mental disabilities. Whenever i see a homeless person holding a 'homeless vet' sign i just think, 'WHY AND HOW did we let that happen?' Its just so sad.

But i'm one of those people who get emotionally overwhelmed when its convenient for me and i promise all these things to myself, but rarely put my money and time where my mouth is because the next morning i'll end up getting really busy and just kinda forgetting about it.

So this is the year, folks. I've just made a few phone calls and sent a few emails and my goal is to find a project in LA where i can use my design skills to help a family have a better home. Homes for our troops seems to be the best national organization, but there isn't a box to check for 'decorating' and while general volunteering is always great, i feel like its kinda wasting an opportunity to use what i got to help individuals. I've contacted and left messages and maybe there is a partnership there (meanwhile you can volunteer or simply donate there). But if anyone knows the right program in Los Angeles (or family that is in great need) please email me.

I'm only one person and for now i'll only be able to do one project, so obviously one with a lot of impact would be great. But obviously i'll be looking for sponsors to help pay for it and who knows what it may lead to. If you are a retailer that is interested in donating or partnering in this, please email as well.

So thank you very much to our American Soldiers and Veterans. You are very appreciated.
