Olio Tableware by Barber & Osgerby

Olio is a new range of tableware by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby for the 200 year old English ceramic company, Royal Doulton. The extensive range of 40 pieces, includes cutlerly, wooden serving pieces, and a full table top ceramic range, all designed for everyday use. As I am on the hunt for new everyday tableware (the Ikea PS collection was discontinued before I had time to restock), this intently mismatched range looks like it could be an interesting alternative to the Teema pieces from Iittala that I had in mind.

”In the English language Olio means ‘a miscellaneous collection of things’ and the range is built from a combination of materials and surface finishes: ceramic, wood and stainless steel, different clays, glazed and unglazed elements. It is an idiosyncratic mix of shapes and materials; the principle idea behind Olio is that it is not a ‘set’, it is a collection, and because of that the pieces will sit happily alongside other objects in the home. Each piece has been designed to sit alone just as well as it will sit amongst the rest of the collection.”
