The Black House
Set into the rolling hillside of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, this modern black house is one of Canny Architecture’s latest developments – and a definite muse see for anyone looking to design their home. (You may recall their Lubelso home in Hawthorn here).
In this recent addition to the Canny portfolio, dark moody interiors imbue a style and sophistication not usually associated with traditional Australian farm houses dotted throughout the country. Exposed beams and the shiplap cladding of walls and ceilings have been painted in different shades of grey and charcoal to create an intimate space within an otherwise expansive home.
We are particularly drawn to the tan leather cushion seating lining the mud room of sorts along wtih the leather tab pulls used here and on the kitchen cabinetry. Leather, linen, and timber dominate the finishes and fittings with accents of metal and stone in the kitchen and bathrooms. The overall colour palette is restful and soothing and is perfect for retreating into while the heat of the summer sun takes hold – or for sitting by the fire as the wind blows across from the Antarctic in the south in winter.
