Amsterdam Outfits: The Vintage Sweater

Hello my lovely readers! I am back from the spectacular city of Amsterdam, and have just had one of the best weeks of my life. Let me tell you, there is nothing like this city. Never have I been in a place where locals have been so welcoming, helpful, bi-lingual (it’s extremely impressive), and open to foreigners. It was the perfect respite after living in Paris for two months, a city that can often be quite hostile. The city has this vibrant energy; I swear, happiness is in the air. People chat with those around them in restaurants, young people working in hip offices will blow you kisses out into the street (true story). I can say that every day I had a truly wonderful encounter with a Dutch person (and even ran into a Dutch friend from Paris halfway through the trip!). I have so much to share with you and there are so many posts to come, starting with one of my first Amsterdam outfits, shot at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum and Vondelpark. Of course, this photo shoot would have been incomplete without a trusted rental bike! Click to read some more details about the day, and to see what I was wearing. Enjoy!

I’m sure you’ve heard this many times before, but Amsterdam has quite bi-polar weather. One moment I was lounging about soaking up the sun, the next a chilly rain would start to fall. So, layers were key! Days were long: we (the friend I was traveling with) would get up early, and not return home until late at night. So, for site-seeing everything from the rainy Rijksmuseum to sunny Vondelpark in one day, the clothing had to suffice! In the early morning at the cold Rijksmuseum, my favorite parka layered over a vintage find from an Amsterdam thrift store was essential. However, later while we were biking around at Vondelpark, the sweater was more than enough.

I wanted to spend my days looking well-dressed, but still completely comfortable (no thank you to riding a bike in a skirt). These velvet leggings from H&M that I packed ended up being perfect for our on-the-go lifestyle. Totally comfortable, they also added something unique to the look. I layered some tights underneath, to make sure that I stayed warm.

I absolutely loved the Rijksmuseum, and my experience there was made even sweeter by the fact that I got in for free (everybody under 19 does!). I had originally planned on knocking out both the Rijks and Van Gogh museum in a span of 2 hours, but I ended up spending the whole time at Rijks instead (catching Van Gogh the next morning). The museum houses a spectacular collection, my favorite being the Victorian wedding dresses. But more on that later (so many details coming in future posts!). Vondelpark didn’t disappoint either. We caught a few rays of sunshine, and had a blast just biking around and exploring. An inexpensive Dutch picnic perfectly topped off our afternoon. But once again, more on that later!

I was wearing:

American Eagle Parka (similar) // Episode Vintage Sweater // H&M Velvet Leggings (on sale!)

Blue Lemon Paris Bag // Free People Socks // Andre Paris Boots // New Look Beanie

And one more picture, I swear it’s a sarcastic shot!! You can’t take yourself too seriously

Thank you so much for reading!! There are so many more in-depth posts coming soon, I started out with a more simple one because these photos I could edit and sort quickly. Stay tuned for lots of travel advice and tips!

Bisous,
Julia
