Peace, Love, and Babies

Even little guys appreciate good old fashion tree huggin', and the occasional colorful rainbow glasses thanks to Aunt Sarah and Uncle Tris!!

Peace lovin' Emmett
Groovin' Owen

Some encouraging news is that our nurses are slowly beginning to train me in how to manage secretions, pick up the babies with all their tubes, trachs, and diverse monitering wires, bathe them, and they have given me a few insider tips on trach care. I love being a bit more independent with my guys!

Yesterday, I held Emmett over my shoulder and patted his back to soothe him. Today I picked up Owen, put him over my shoulder and swayed him to comfort him. It felt incredible. It soothed MY weary soul. Aren't children amazing?! These little guys, just by being themselves, made me feel like I was a good mom.

And tonight, when I came home from the hospital, Ethan and Liam were so excited to see me, they could hardly finish their dinner!

My heart is full of blood, and my soul is full of love. :)

After a more in depth discussion about the next steps in ventilator weaning, I realize that I have unintentionally told a fib! I am very sorry! The babies will NOT go to bubble C-pap. Rather, once vent settings are low enough, an artificial nose (basically a filter - it doesn't ACTUALLY look like a nose) will be placed on their trachs. At that point, Emmett and Owen will be responsible for breathing on their own. They will start out with a few minutes at a time, and eventually increase to larger and larger chunks of time until the vent is no longer needed. Again, I apologize for the misleading information. I am still learning as I go. Thank you for understanding and being patient with me!

One last thing. In Richardson, TX, there is a community of people with loving-kindness, and graciousness, and generosity that exudes from the hands, and mouths, and hearts of each and every person that we have been fortunate enough to meet. They gather at a place called Waterview Church of Christ. And to these wonderful, God-fearing people, I want to say this:

Sincerely, thank you for all you have done for my family.

3 more things that I am grateful for:

1.) holidays

2.) My grandma coming to keep the older boys for a few days, and Linda, for helping with childcare when my family has to return to their homes.

3.) people who can help me carry the weight of my world when it becomes too much for me.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

~ Matthew 11:28-30
