Valentine’s Winter Woodland Inspiration

Although this shoot wasn’t exactly styled for Valentine’s Day, with its fabulously fun LOVE sign, gorgeous naked cake and cozy red plaid blanket, we thought it fit perfect for this week of extra love.

Looking to create a feel of earthy naturalness to truly emphasize the beauty of winter in the forest, Paisley Photography chose Fishcreek Provincial park as the perfect location for this winter woodland wedding inspiration. Not only was the location perfect, but with snow covering tree branches and a fresh blanket of fluffiness on the ground, the whiteness sparkling in the sunlight was like icing on a cake!.

From Paisley Photography:

Lovesky Design Inc. created a breath taking invitation with the the look and feel of real wood and the perfect touch of shimmer. Everything about it reminded us of winter in the forest. The addition of greenery was the perfect way to finish off this beautiful invitation package.

The styling was done by the very talented Heather from Orange Trunk Vintage Styling. When we first chatted about this shoot, we really wanted to bring a vintage winter element to it. The antique skates, snow shoes and sled was a playful way we could accomplish this. We also wanted the forest to play a big part in the shoot so we kept the other rentals and props crisp, natural and organic in feel. We had fun playing with the eye catching colored LOVE marque, which was the perfect pop of color.
I have always loved the rustic feel of naked cakes, and Black & White Bake Shop made the quintessential cake for this session. The crazy yummy three layer cake sprinkled in powdered sugar and wrapped in greenery completely encompassed the winter woodland feel.

The incredible bouquet and boutonniere were created by Jessica from Willow and Whimsy. The addition of leyland cedar, pearls and cotton made the bouquet uniquely beautiful, as well as hardier for the freezing temperatures. The adorable addition of raw cotton reminded me of fluffy snow and complimented our winter woodland feel exquisitely.
The bride was wearing a lace overlaid dress by Mori Lee with an adorable silver cardi from Target paired with a white infinity scarf and mittens from Ardene. I love the juxtaposition of the elegance of her wedding dress against the more casual feel of the cardigan. Not only did it help to keep Kristina warm while shooting but added a little winter whimsy. Her twig and berry crown was a DIY idea from the Christmas section of Michael’s, and is the perfect sparkle accessory to her outfit. The whole ensemble is swoon worthy.

Most couples plan summer weddings, however winter weddings can be just as stunning and oh so cozy. There is something magical about a winter wedding; the fresh falling snow, the crisp and cleanness of the pillows of white, and being able to cuddle up with the one you love! Embrace the beauty of winter especially since in Alberta, winter is usually seven months!

Thanks for stopping by!
