May Ultimate Coffee Date

Hello friends! It’s the first Saturday of May and time for the Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up with Coco, Lynda and Debbie. Please be sure to visit their blogs and the linkup to spend some time with some blogger friends.
If we were having coffee, I would start out by showing you my new gadget. I got my Mother’s Day gift a little early and I’m so excited. (okay, so I don’t really leave much to chance and usually tell my family exactly what I want as a gift, and this year it came early) I got the Fitbit Charge HR. It arrived a couple of days ago and I’m having so much fun with it. I’ve got a challenge going with a few coworkers and friends and I love easily seeing my step count during the day. I’ve been using my iPhone for the last few months to track my steps and it’s been a good motivator. (I’ll be telling you all about why I decided on this tracker in a post coming up)
On my run on the first day – I got my notification of reaching my 10,000 steps! Yay! And yes, major technology overload wearing the FitBit and the Garmin… oh well… kind of funny too – I think the Garmin was my Mothers’ Day gift 2 years ago
If we were having coffee, I would ask you if you have a fitness tracker and ask if it motivates you to move more? I’d also ask you if you ask for the gift that you want or do you just leave it up to your loved ones to shop for the perfect gift?
If we were having coffee, I would tell you about the ducks that hang out by my office. There is a nice fountain in the building next to us, and we only have this little water structure. There are a male and female duck that often just hang out by our little sculpture. One day last week, it was only the male duck. I’m so sad. We don’t know where the female went, they were always together. We are hoping that she’s somewhere nearby and just protecting a nest of eggs or something. Yesterday, one of my coworkers saw two male ducks, so maybe she’s okay somewhere. I hope so.
Above: the couple hanging out. They were always next to each other. Below: the male all by himself.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m super happy that my kids are big breakfast eaters… However at the moment, that means that I make fresh waffles for each of them every morning (in the past we’ve been through a pancake phase and a croissant phase). It’s actually not that big of a deal – the Kodiak Cakes mix is super easy and it’s full of ingredients that we can pronounce and each serving has 14g of protein and about 200 calories. Perfect breakfast, right? (if you’ve seen my waffle pictures before, you might notice that I got a new waffle maker – bummer, had to retire the heart waffle maker that was a wedding gift, 20 years ago) And it’s easy to make the waffles while I’m packing my lunch and feeding the dogs. It’s also worth it to instill in them how important it is to eat breakfast (and we have a deal that they pack their own lunches and I make breakfast).
If we were having coffee, I would ask you if you are a breakfast eater – I’d tell you about my obsession lately with these oatmeal breakfast cookies for my own breakfast.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I made the best food find at Trader Joe’s the other day. This trail mix is almonds, cashews and chocolate only. And it’s so so awesome. I keep this bag in my desk and there are measuring cups in the office kitchen and I’ve been good about only having one 1/4 cup serving each afternoon. OMG, it’s so good. It’s 180 calories and hits the spot for my afternoon sweet tooth. They also had single serving packs, but they were a little bigger serving size – I think it was 260 calories per pack…
Thanks for stopping by for coffee this morning. I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend and happy May! Be sure to visit the hosts of the linkup for more coffee date fun.
