NYX Burlesque High Voltage Lipstick Review

Man, am I loving NYX right now! The new spring releases are turning out to be amazing! The Intense Butter Glosses are everything you could ever want in a gloss and the High Voltage Lipsticks are a must have. I honestly can’t believe how nice these lipsticks are.

But before I start singing its praises I have to get this out the way. I hate the packaging! Okay, hate is kind of a strong word but I’m not the biggest fan. The caps don’t always snap close so they have a tendency to slip right off. Plus, the lipsticks aren’t fully retractable until you use them a bit. So they’re easily damaged if you’re not careful. It’s just a bad combination. However, I do appreciate the small, round slanted tip. A lot. It makes the High Voltage Lipsticks incredibly easy to apply even if you have full lips like mine. I just wish the cap would stay on!

Now back to the praise! The first shade I tried was Burlesque, a vibrant brick red with a slight cool undertone and creamy satin finish. I’m usually not a fan of red lips on me but this is a super sexy lipstick that’ll be great for romantic dates or a night out on the town. I instantly felt like a vixen with this beauty!

I have more than enough lipsticks but I seriously think I want almost every shade of the High Voltage Lipsticks. The formula is incredibly impressive! Burlesque applies smoothly and evenly with full coverage in a single swipe. It has a lightweight texture that’s ultra creamy and lightly moisturizing.

I thought the formula might be a little too emollient for such a bold shade but Burlesque wore incredibly well. The color didn’t emphasize flakes or settle into lip lines. There was a little bleeding but a light application and lip liner knocks it right out. Burlesque lasts for around 4-5 hours before fading into an intense red stain that’ll definitely spare you a touch-up or two. Whether you’re a red lip junkie or just starting out I think the NYX Burlesque High Voltage Lipstick is a great shade to have in your stash. It’s super flattering and makes for one sexy red when paired with a deeper liner!
