the skirt dilemma

Do you ever see items on Pinterest or posted wherever online with captions like “I wish I had somewhere to wear this” or “dream wardrobe”.

Everyday? Yeah, me too. And I get it. I often run across items I like or trends I’m inspired by but aren’t sure where they’d fit into into my own wardrobe. Take this skirt…

Designed by Hello Holiday’s Emerging Designer Jane Round, this piece is large and in charge in the best way possible, and super on trend for spring (hello mint!) without being too trend-reliant. I’ve been toying with different ways to style it in my mind and even had a discussion about it with our Beauty Director, Rebecca, the other day. She suggested pairing it with a simple white tank. Wouldn’t that be adorable? Especially with a bold, chunky necklace in say, coral or lemon. I love that idea!

Today, it struck me as I was getting dressed to pair this piece with a simple denim shirt. You know, the ones Gap have been reproducing for the last 20 years? One of those. Don’t have one? Get one, you’ll have it forever. I think mine is 10 years old, no joke. So I paired our Mint Chip Malt Skirt with a denim shirt, double knotted at the waist and my favorite shoes of the season (I say that about all our shoes –sorry not sorry), our Turning Point Sandals (grab these comfy beauties soon, I swear you won’t regret it and they’re almost sold out).

You guys I almost cried when I looked in the mirror. This simple denim top is the PERFECT MATCH for such a bold skirt. Ready for where you wear this? Ok.

(1) Engagement photo session in the country. Imagine this outfit, barefoot even with a little handful of wildflowers.

(2) A party you’re hosting. You can add the bold chunky necklace over the denim shirt and maybe even pop your collar for prep-perfect styling.

(3) A friend’s rehearsal dinner. Swap the denim shirt for a plain white oxford button-up. Pearls would be pretty.

(4) Out on a Friday night because why the fuck not?

Go forth and be a cutie.

xo, Sarah
