GoodTime Diner – Southern style BBQ and fat, juicy burgers in Bondi Junction

Get inside me.

Smoked meat selection.

Smoked meat platter for 2 – $55. Ready yourself for meat sweats.

Cajun spiced corn – I need to try to recreate these at home.

The Juicy Lucy ($15.50) – Wagyu patty stuffed with mozzarella and cheddar.

Inside the Juicy Lucy. Who needs clear arteries anyway?

GoodTime Diner’s negroni. Tastes like grapefruit and I loved it!

Inside GoodTime Diner.

Sydney, I’m enjoying your current interest in burgers and southern style American BBQ. GoodTime Diner has just opened in The Eastern serving smoky BBQed meats, burgers and New Orleans’ twists on classic cocktails.

These guys aren’t doing BBQ half assed – they’re doing it whole assed by importing an American Yoder Smoker that results in delicious 12 hour beef short ribs, 18 hour pulled pork, southern spiced free range chicken and whole sides of salmon. Damn.

The BBQ meat platter for 2 ($55) is a good option because you get to try a range of their meaty selections. You also get a side of cajun spiced corn that is spicy, buttery and insanely good. My only issue here is that there is almost too much meat and some little white dinner rolls in place of some of that meat would have made the platter feel more rounded. Plus BBQ meat on fresh rolls are one of the best things ever. Still, it’s a generous platter with some damn good quality meats.

Next up, the burger… After watching the episode of Food Wars where they featured the Juicy Lucy I’ve wanted to try this heart attack of a burger. Basically a Juicy Lucy is a burger where the cheese is inside the patty and oozes out when you bite into it. GoodTime Diner has this (among other burgers) on the menu and is their most popular burger. The meat is juicy, the cheese is oozy and all up it’s a pretty solid burger that’s about the size of my head. The only real let down was the bun – but I’m just a huge fan of potato buns and think that most burgers could be 500 times better by using these. But regardless, this is an epic burger that’s not for the weak or small stomached among us. Do it, your mouth won’t regret it.

Okay so dessert. These are, of course, American inspired with cheesecakes and sundaes and ice cream. Oh my. I was waaaay too full for dessert but if I had my time again, the vanilla cheesecake with blueberry compote or the Mars Bar slice would find its way to the table.

If you’re Bondi Junction side, definitely give GoodTime Diner a go. You’ll end up with meat sweats and so full you wish you were wearing stretchy pants, but it’s totally worth it.
