Fun fact*: Langer’s Deli has been around since 1947, which is actually the same age as my parents.

Even better fact: It nearly closed down in the early 1990s due to the recession and it being in a total ghetto part of town which was overrun with gangs and drugs. According to their website, a subway station saved it (which is odd for LA because I don’t know anyone who uses the subway) allowing more people to come to Langer’s and keeping this pastrami haven in business.

I often find restaurants that have been around for decades aren’t really that great and rely on their history and name to get by. Langer’s isn’t one of those restaurants. Their hot pastrami sandwich has been described as the best in the world. And you know what, it could be.

#19 is their most popular sandwich which is a classic pastrami, swiss cheese and coleslaw with Russian style dressed. Get it on rye and say hello to one of the best deli sandwiches.

Personally, my favourite was the pastrami French dip sandwich with Au Jus (extra dipping sauce). It came pre-dipped in a beefy juice that comes from the cooking of the beef. I loved being able to dip my already delicious sandwich into a beef stock making it into a super tasty but not too soggy sandwich.

Top this amazing food off with waitresses so motherly that you kind of wish they’d give you a hug because you’re missing your own mum back at home and a sort of celebrity spotting (

*Okay, not so much as a “fun fact” but more of a pointless fact that has nothing to do with pastrami or sandwiches.
