1. I love my Birkenstock black Gizeh sandals, and lately, that’s all you’ll usually find on my feet. So comfortable and broken in. So can I please happily share with you my latest shoe purchase?
Pearl white Gizehs with a white footbed! So cool right? I love this combination and ordered it right away when I saw it. I’ve been admiring the white “Exquisite” version of these for awhile, but at $210 thought it was a bit rich. These pearly whites above are the same price as the regular Gizehs, and I think look super cool. You can find them at Nordstrom and Zappos (I notice that these are selling quite well, my size sold out at Nordstrom right after I placed my order).

2. I’ve ramped down my spending at J.Crew quite a bit over the last few years, and this WSJ article – Dear J.Crew, What Happened To Us? (Google Search link as otherwise it goes behind the WSJ paywall) goes into a few of the issues that most of us have experienced with the brand in the last few years. Then, you can read an update to the saga here.
3. I think that Johann Rupert is one of the most executives and most interesting figures right now in the luxury world, so am always interested to hear his thoughts on the industry. This FT article, Luxury Goods Face A Global Reckoning, has some great (and potentially scary) quotes from Rupert, as he discusses softness from the China market and an overall luxury slowdown. I’ve noticed some of the changes that he mentions – would love to hear your thoughts.
4. My reading this week was related to another interesting article – Poor Little Rich Women – about the “Glam Stay at Home Moms” of the Upper East Side and their rituals. Because of the article I decided to read the corresponding book Primates of Park Avenue, written by Wednesday Martin about her experiences as an Upper East Side mom.
Based on this subject matter I was prepared to like this book and recommend it on the blog – but honestly, I thought it was pretty bad. The author came across as pretty unlikeable, and the subject itself seems to be torn between being a scientific anthropological study, and just petty gossip and complaints about wealthy women. There still were some interesting tidbits but the most I could recommended is maybe checking out the book at the library. Otherwise, I think the NYTimes article I linked above has most of the good stuff.
A much better book in my opinion, which also covers the “feeling foreign raising your child in a new society” is one I’ve mentioned before, Bringing Up Bebe.
