Do The Work

Spring Fever has hit me hard and my days are a mix of spectacular productivity and ridiculous laziness. There’s so much to be done! Is there time enough for it all?

Do you ever get that “get to work” anxiety, when your to-do list looms and your ambition is soaring and there’s just not enough time in the day to work, recover, and keep the house clean? My month in Flagstaff has been wonderfully busy, but my focus has been on fitness first– and all my other ambitions (this blog, my social media clients, writing, knitting!) have fallen by the wayside. It’s a good thing: my running is my number one priority right now and I’m right on track to have a fantastic year; but it’s also a stressful thing: the rest of my life is on hold and I feel guilty at times for neglecting it all.

There’s nothing for it but to get to work. Life is all about ebbs and flows and keeping priorities in place. Knowing yourself is the key– what does your body, mind, and soul need at this very moment? Are you pushing too hard in one direction while really craving another? Can you let off the gas pedal in one aspect of your life just enough to find time to pursue another? Which part of you is being neglected and which part of you can you afford to put away for a moment?

Right now, I need to keep my head in the running world. I need naps and massages and time to roll out my legs after every run and the luxury of cooking healthy meals; I don’t “need” to be posting five times a day or hustling to get new clients or writing those novels I have in my head. Shaking off that guilt I feel when nothing gets crossed out of my planner is part of the balancing act that is life. And when the time is right, I need to be ready to reshift my focus and get to work.

What needs work in your life?
