The One With Next Top Nail Artist! Pre Challenge #1

So I briefly mentioned this in my last post but now Im gonna explain it a little more and show you what I did for the first challenge! Nails Mag created this as a reality show based online contest. So basically like a Project Runway/ Next Top Model kinda thing for nails. But online.. not TV lol. To enter we had to submit 3-10 pictures of our work and create a 3-4 minute video diary saying why we are the Next Top Nail Artist. A few weeks ago I got an email letting me know I was picked for the Top 24 semi-finalists! Heres the list that Nails Mag posted If you want to see who else made it. The first 2 weeks were pre challenges to get to the Top 12 where the "real" competition starts. Each pre challenge 6 people are cut. And I believe once you make it to the Top 12 it turns over to public voting. I'm not really sure about that though. The last 2 contestants compete live at ISSE Long Beach 2014 and both receive cash prizes and well as a sponsorship with Gelish for the winner. We all know how much I love my Gelish so the prize is amazzinggg. There are alot of really talented nail artists in the competition so I am slightly freaking out. And I'm pretty new to all of this nail stuff compared to most of them.

For the first pre challenge we had to do an 80's inspired nail and post a pictorial on our Nails Mag Nail Art Gallery. This challenge literally drove me up the wall and had me so nervous. I wasn't around for the 80s so I dont know much about it. I did an 80s inspired collection for fashion in high school so I went off of that! Lace and bows.. very Madonnaish. I was so dead set on this nail and really loved it. The pictures were done, edited, ready to go......

and then I started seeing some other entries and I was second guessing myself. I felt like I needed to show I could actually draw.. like one of my cartoon nails.. Idk I was just freaking out so I did a second nail. I painted Rainbow Brite with a little 3D bow and star and was about to send that one in and then changed my mind again! I asked a bunch of people and was getting different answers from everyone. I really had no idea what to do and struggled to the last minute. It was literally making my stomach hurt every time I thought about it. So I went with my first instinct and sent in the lace!

Even after I sent it I thought I should change it and thought about it non stop. I finally had to just tell myself it was done and over and there was nothing I could do but wait. I guess I made the right choice because I got an email a few days later saying I moved on to the Top 18! Wooo! We just completed that challenge on Wednesday and waited for the results. fingers crossed.

I have pictorials for both of these. The lace one is up on the Nail Art Gallery already if you don't want to wait and Ill have Rainbow Brite up on there and here soon!
