This OITNB Star Has a Body-Positive Message For Instagram

Orange Is the New Black fan-favorite Danielle Brooks, known by Netflix addicts as "Taystee," totally understands why people feel self-conscious at the gym. Despite being there to better yourself, there's something about workout clothes that makes you hyperaware of your perceived flaws. Whether it's a few extra pounds or the way you sweat on the treadmill, it's not uncommon to feel ashamed of your body even while working so hard to improve it. But the OITNB star is banishing this sort of self-consciousness in the best way: by working out without her shirt!

During her workout on Tuesday evening, Brooks posted a superfierce selfie from the gym with an inspiring message. "I've always wanted to do this but have felt shameful and have told myself 'until my body is perfect I'm forbidden,'" she wrote on her Instagram, clad in a cute sports bra. "Today my inner being told me to turn up the notch on my self-love. I should not be ashamed of my body. I'm not a walking imperfection! I'm a Goddess." Preach!

Hey rs, Today I decided to do something I've never done before: Go to the gym with my SHIRT OFF!! I thought I'd share why this is significant for me. I've always wanted to do this but have felt shameful and have told myself "until my body is perfect I'm forbidden." Today my inner being told me to turn up the notch on my self-love. I should not be ashamed of my body. I'm not a walking imperfection! I'm a Goddess. Secondly, I'm a confident woman! That doesn't stop once I take off my spanx. Lol Sometimes it's a struggle. Sometimes I don't like what I see, but I have the power to change the way in which I relate to my body both physically and mentally. Today I woke up feeling beautiful and motivated to love myself and take care of the ONE body that I've been given. I'm not saying World take your shirt off, twist it round your head, spin it like a helicopter, (lol) I'm saying everyone live in your confidence. One Life. One Body. Take Care of It. "I'm a confident woman! That doesn't stop once I take off my Spanx," she continued, urging her followers to take care of and love their bodies. "Everyone live in your confidence. One Life. One Body. Take Care of It." Brooks, who is preparing for her role in the upcoming Broadway production of The Color Purple alongside Jennifer Hudson, isn't new to the body-confidence movement; she's also served as spokesperson for People's #LoveYourShape campaign and is a self-proclaimed member of "Team Love Thyself."
