HE’S HERE \\ Meet Rocco Timothy

One week ago today I was already days into labor, breathing through contractions at our house, believing any minute our baby would arrive. In fact, Rocco Timothy came into the world hours after that, Saturday, June 27, at 7:35 p.m., a little nugget not quite six-and-a-half pounds, with a full head of hair, adorable lips and the longest newborn fingers and toes. Everyone says he looks like Tim, which is a compliment to both of them if you’re asking me, and, from the moment we met him, he has stolen our hearts away with his tiny features, accidental smiles and kissable baby cheeks. I have so much I could post here about the labor and delivery that it took to get him here, but I don’t know if this site is really the right place for that, so I will just say it was long and it was beautiful, although maybe not in the ways I expected, and that all the fears and research and preparation I had in expectation for the experience couldn’t have told me what I most needed to know: that when it comes down to it, you do get through it and you do do it and, when it’s over, no matter how many days you’ve been without sleep or how many interventions have ended up being involved or how sore your swollen body feels, you don’t regret any of it. God is faithful and, when you hang on to Him, He will see you through every unexpected detour and delay. He will help you. Driving home from the hospital Tuesday with our sleeping baby in the back seat, Tim and I talked about the comfort of knowing God always gives us what is good and, more than that, exactly what we would ask for if we knew everything He knows. This truth is so precious to me right now. Jesus is so precious to me. And since then, we have spent the last several days tucked in at home with my mom and my brother who have spoiled us with homemade bone broth, Greek chicken pitas, grass-fed meatballs, this chocolate cake and killer fajitas, among other things, and every day gets a little sweeter and more joy-filled than the one before. We are thankful.

Anyway, thank you all for sharing in our joy in this newborn season. It may be a while before we’re back here cooking, but we’ll still be overgramming baby photos via Instagram here. For now, here are some photos from the last, hard, good, unforgettable seven days.

(Special thanks to my talented, super generous brother Adam for taking most of these pics.)
