It’s Mother’s Day. So far today I’ve enjoyed breakfast in bed, and had some lovely home-made cards and presents from my kids. We’re heading off for lunch at our local all-you-can-eat Indian and Thai buffet (I refuse to cook or wash up on Mother’s Day!). I hope all those who are celebrating today have a lovely day. Today was a good week. I think I finally have a date for my gallbladder surgery so I have finally been able to make plans and get organised. Here’s a selection of what we’ve been up to this week:
My daughter has been getting more and more into board and card games recently. She’s been going to a board games after school club this term and we’ve been playing more games as a family. Today she decided she was going to invent her own card game, and she actually came up with a pretty neat idea!

My son has been working on his writing and drawing a lot recently, and can often be found scribbling away. Today I gave him a folded piece of paper to doodle on, and he decided it would be a book.

When my daughter made her Brownie promise last week she was presented with a whole collection of badges that needed to be sewed onto her uniform. Now, I possess very few sewing skills, but I can sew on a button, so I thought I would probably be OK with the badges as well. It took a couple of evenings, as I am not fast, but the badges were in all place in time for her next meeting
I did it! Badges all sewed on ready for Brownies tonight #tw #365 69/365

I don’t have much success keeping plants alive. Yes Mum, I know I need to water them if I want them to thrive, I just keep forgetting! I bought this beautiful Spring basket a couple of weeks ago, and it’s still going – yay!
Two weeks on, and I haven’t killed my hanging basket yet! Love the Spring colours #tw #365 70/365 A photo posted by Ruth Arnold (@r2uk) on Mar 12, 2015 at 2:08am PDT
We did some baking at the weekend, including, at my daughter’s insistence, a giant cupcake. Today we finally got around to icing it, and I made the mistake of giving her all my cake decorations and telling her to “go wild” with them. This was the result!

Today was Red Nose Day, and my husband came back from his Code Club this afternoon sporting this little decoration – is it the smallest Red Nose ever?

We enjoyed a fun couple of games of “The Kids of Carcassonne” this afternoon. The geekdaddy and I enjoy playing the full-fledged Carcassonne, and this is a great way to introduce the kids to the basic idea in a more simple way.
