Budget Brushes Worth Buying…

In order to get good results, you have to have the right tools for the job; this is especially true when it comes to makeup. I very rarely use my fingers to apply makeup, I think it’s messy and unhygienic and I think once you get used to using brushes, application is a dream.

Up until recently, makeup brushes were overpriced so it was fair enough if you didn’t have a few in your collection – back in the day you had the choice of the premium brands starting at around £20 per brush, or the budget brands of Boots which weren’t the best quality. Thankfully, things have improved and we now have a number of affordable brands introducing incredible brushes for cheap.
One of those brands is B. – a certified cruelty-free range of high-quality products that are available in Superdrug. I’ve tried quite a few bits from their skincare line and I’ve always been impressed, and so when they asked me to review their brand new, vegan and cruelty-free range of oh so affordable tools, I was keen!

The brushes launched just last week and were designed with B. Ambassador Cassie Lomas, there’s currently seven in total which is the ideal amount to build up to if you’re new to brushes – or you can pick up a few to add to your collection like I’ve done. They start at £7.99 each, and go up to £9.99 each – a good deal for a single brush as they do tend to last years and years with good care (see my brush cleaning guide here). There’s also a B. Makeup Brush Collection on sale for £13.49, which makes for the ideal starter kit.

The quality is impressive; the bristles are made from super soft Taklon which is of artist quality – I prefer synthetic brushes over natural hair, they tend to wear better and keep their shape. I also find they are really versatile, so for example a shadow brush can be used for cream, liquid and powder products – I would use the Eyeshadow Blending Brush for creamy shadows and highlighters, powder products and even concealer and setting powders. Multi-use products are key!

My favourite brush is definitely the B. Blusher & Contour brush, a perfectly-shaped, super soft tool for sculpting cheekbones and adding a flawless flush to the cheeks. This is nice and puffy, meaning you get that gradual blend of blusher for a really natural result, and you can delicately apply product without disturbing foundation etc. as the brush is so light. Win.

All in all, a really impressive line of vegan tools for under £10 per piece – there’s also a budget brush cleaner for just £4.99, which is ideal if you use a load of products or just want more time in between washes.
There’s also a number of How To videos on the brands channel if you’re interested.

Will you be heading to the B. counter?
