Nothing says Christmas like a mantle draped in garland. No mantle? No problem. We like to hang garland on staircases, outlining doors–it’s even nice draped on a sideboard or console. This year I made my own garland (photo to follow on Instagram). I have found that the best day to purchase or make your garland is three days before Christmas so that it is still fresh the day of. Garland is tricky to keep alive-looking for more than a few days. In fact, I’ve read that the best way to preserve your garland is to soak it in a basin of water overnight before hanging. At the very least it needs to be spritzed with water from a spray bottle everyday. One easy way to customize your garland without starting from scratch is to buy a simple boxwood garland and add greens like eucalyptus, cedar and juniper to it, using a little floral wire to secure each piece. Adding additional greens helps fill the garland out and these particular greens give it the most lovely smell. Our favorite source for ready-made, absolutely beautiful garland is event planner Bronson Van Wyck’s Holiday Workshop. Below are a few of the garlands he’s making this year, all available to purchase:
Did you see the photo Tory Burch posted on her Instagram this weekend of the garland in her living room? Love seeing this room dressed up for the holidays!
